Cyrhaeddon ni Chi Phat ar ôl 5 awr ar fws a 2 awr ar gwch i lawr yr afon, yn syml roeddwn yn flinedig ac yn llwgi. Cawsom groesawiad mawr a chynnes gan Vesna, oedd ein cyswllt, roedd bwyd a gweli yn barod i ni yn syth. Roeddwn yn lwcus iawn gan gafodd pawb ystafell ei hun, ond ar ôl rhannu am gymaint o amser, teimlwyd rhai yn unig a chysgon gyda’n gilydd. Ar ôl brecwast mawr o reis, dechreuom ar ein taith o 14km, pellter weddol fyr, ond yn y gwres yna teimlwyd fel 100km. Roeddwn yn ffodus iawn i gael arweinwyr lleol ffantastig a cyfeillgar. Cysgon yn hamog am y tro cyntaf, gyda rhai yn mwynhau a rhai ddim, mae yn deimlad gwahanol i gysgu gyda’ch traed yn uwch na’ch pen. Ar ein diwrnod cyntaf o weithio, symudon lwyth o bren o un ardal i ganol y gamp, i alluogi i'r adeiladu dechrau, hefyd helpwn glirio’r ardal lle byddwn yn adeiladu'r hŵt newydd. Gweithiom yn galed iawn i balu tyllau dwfn er mwyn i'r sylfaen cael ei adeiladu yn sefydlog, gwyliwn y dynion lleol yn ei rhoi lan, gyda sgil anhygoel. Ar y diwrnod cyntaf cawsom sioc wrth i ni fwyta reis am frecwast, cinio a swper, ond roedd y llysiau a daeth gyda'r reis yn newid pob tro, mi oedd yn flasus iawn. Ar yr ail ddiwrnod, oherwydd roedd y to yn cael ei adeiladu ac roedd yn waith rhy beryglus i ni helpu, gwariwyd y diwrnod yn archwilio'r jwngl cyfagos, gyda rhai ohonom ni yn defnyddio machetes i glirio llwybr a rhai hefyd yn symud pren er mwyn dechrau'r llawr y noson yna. Y diwrnod wedyn, gyda'r to i fynnu helwn ni i greu'r llawr gan lifio a morthwylio'r pren er mwyn iddo fod yn gryf a sefydlog. Y noson yna oherwydd pen-blwydd Taylor-Jo ac oherwydd yr hŵt newydd cawsom barti gyda'r bobl leol, gan fwyta gyda’n gilydd a hefyd canu am oriau. Dysgom lawer o'r iaith oddi wrth Leigh Heng a'r dynion lleol, gyda ni yn dysgu nhw Saesneg a bach o Gymraeg. Roeddwn wir wedi mwynhau, er roedd yn wahanol iawn i fywyd pob dydd, er dyna yw i nifer o bobl.
We arrived in Chi Phat after 5 hours on a bus and 2 hours on a boat up the river, needless to say we were all exhausted and starving. Vesna our contact in Chi Phat gave us a really warm welcome and as soon as we arrived we were fed and sent to our ready beds. We were very lucky as everyone had their own room, but because of how used we are to sharing rooms, several people felt lonely and ended up sharing anyway. After a big breakfast of rice we started out on our trek of 14km, a short distance but with the heat and humidity it felt more like 100km. As a group we were lucky enough to have fantastic local guides who were really friendly. Sleeping in a hammock for the first time was unusual as none of us are used to sleeping with our feet above our heads, some enjoyed but others however did not. On our first day of work we helped move a load of logs into the camp so that the building could start, we also helped clear the area of where the new hut was going to be built. We worked extremely hard to dig deep holes for the structural poles to go into, we then watched the local men erect the structure with amazing skill. On that first day we had a shock as we ate rice for breakfast, lunch and dinner, but the vegetables that accompanied the rice changed every time and it was truly delicious. On the second day because the roof was being put on and it was too dangerous for us to help we spend the day exploring the surrounding jungle, with some of us using machetes to clear a path, with others moving even more logs so that the floor could be started that night. On the last day with the roof up and secure we helped saw and hammer the wood for the floor making it strong and secure. That night because it was Taylor-Jo's birthday and to celebrate the new hut we had a parti with the locals, where we ate together and sang for hours. We learnt a lot of the language (khmer) but we also taught them English and even a little Welsh. We all truly enjoyed, although it was very different to our everyday life, we
